Strawberry Market Size in Iran

The Iranian strawberry market declined modestly to $X in 2022, reducing by -3.8% against the previous year. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for strawberry exports from Iran, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, strawberry exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Iraq (X tons), fourfold. Oman (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United Arab Emirates totaled +2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (-6.9% per year) and Oman (+19.5% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for strawberries exports from Iran, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Iraq, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia totaled +27.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (+19.6% per year) and Iraq (-10.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average strawberry export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -18% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 23%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of strawberries, when their volume decreased by -16.9% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 51%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, strawberry imports contracted notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 67%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) was the main supplier of strawberry to Iran, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total imports.
