In value terms, sulphites exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 351% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for sulphites exports from Iran, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphites exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uzbekistan (X tons), twofold. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Turkey amounted to -2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+20.0% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-77.1% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the key foreign market for sulphites exports from Iran, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (-47.4% per year) and Uzbekistan (+19.7% per year).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+129.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of sulphites were imported into Iran; with an increase of 5% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sulphites imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sulphites to Iran, accounting for a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphites imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled -10.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-13.8% per year) and India (-71.5% per year).
