The Iranian market for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers expanded notably to $X in 2021, growing by 7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a mild descent. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Azerbaijan (X tons) was the main destination for sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports from Iran, accounting for a 53% share of total exports. Moreover, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports to Azerbaijan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tajikistan (X tons), fivefold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Azerbaijan totaled +18.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (+2.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+10.5% per year).

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) remains the key foreign market for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers exports from Iran, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tajikistan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Azerbaijan stood at +28.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (+4.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.5% per year).

In 2021, the average export price for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7.6% against the previous year. In 2021, approx. X tons of sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers were imported into Iran; shrinking by -22.8% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 116%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports dropped notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a modest expansion. Armenia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey amounted to +10.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+0.5% per year) and Armenia (+58.8% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers to Iran, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey totaled +10.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-0.4% per year) and Armenia (+78.1% per year).

The average import price for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
