The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 1,728%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, passenger car tyre exports fell modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw buoyant growth. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Afghanistan (X units) was the main destination for passenger car tyre exports from Iran, with a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, passenger car tyre exports to Afghanistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Iraq (X units), threefold. Yemen (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Afghanistan totaled +13.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+36.6% per year) and Yemen (+30.2% per year).
In value terms, Afghanistan ($X) remains the key foreign market for tyres for motor cars exports from Iran, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iraq ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Yemen, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Afghanistan stood at +17.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+40.7% per year) and Yemen (+41.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average passenger car tyre export price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -13.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 81%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Yemen ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran
In 2021, approx. X units of tyres for motor cars were imported into Iran; waning by -55.5% against the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate a dramatic slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, passenger car tyre imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a precipitous setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 34%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
South Korea (X units), China (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) were the main suppliers of passenger car tyre imports to Iran, with a combined 69% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese) and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of -0.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest passenger car tyre suppliers to Iran were China ($X), South Korea ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 71% of total imports. France, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan (Chinese) and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
France, with a CAGR of +1.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average passenger car tyre import price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
