Flax Fabric Market Size in Iran

The Iranian flax fabric market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, surging by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed strong growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

After ten years of growth, shipments abroad of woven fabrics of flax decreased by -12.1% to X kg in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. Azerbaijan (X kg) was the main destination for flax fabric exports from Iran, accounting for a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, flax fabric exports to Azerbaijan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, North Macedonia (X kg), sevenfold. Armenia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.9% share.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Azerbaijan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: North Macedonia (-13.4% per year) and Armenia (-65.7% per year).

Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of 0.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average flax fabric export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2020 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% over the last two-year period. Flax fabric imports into Iran soared to X tons in 2022, jumping by 51% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, flax fabric imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 460% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X kg) were the main suppliers of flax fabric imports to Iran, together comprising 99% of total imports.
