Canned Vegetable Market Size in Iraq
The Iraqi canned vegetable market dropped to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -6.2% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. For the third consecutive year, Iraq recorded decline in overseas shipments of canned vegetables, which decreased by -2.6% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 230%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 305%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Turkey (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of canned vegetable exports from Iraq, together accounting for 82% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +112.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for canned vegetable exported from Iraq were Turkey ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 85% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the United States, with a CAGR of +65.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average canned vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -23.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 52%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Iraq
In 2022, the amount of canned vegetables imported into Iraq reduced to X tons, with a decrease of -10.9% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 87%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest canned vegetable supplier to Iraq, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, canned vegetable imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to +5.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+14.5% per year) and Egypt (-3.1% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of canned vegetables to Iraq, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey totaled +1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+19.1% per year) and Egypt (-3.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average canned vegetable import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 38% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
