In value terms, leather footwear exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands (X tons), Turkey (X kg) and the UK (X kg) were the main destinations of leather footwear exports from Iraq, with a combined 66% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +37.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Turkey ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest markets for leather footwear exported from Iraq worldwide, together accounting for 51% of total exports.

In 2021, the average leather footwear export price amounted to $X per kg, declining by -6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 169%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per kg. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+25.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iraq
In 2021, overseas purchases of leather footwear decreased by -8.8% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 106% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, leather footwear imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 88%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of leather footwear imports to Iraq, with a combined 92% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +44.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of leather footwear to Iraq, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +44.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-6.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-4.7% per year).

The average leather footwear import price stood at $X per kg in 2021, declining by -4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 48% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per kg in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per kg), while the price for the United States ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
