For the fourth consecutive year, the Iraqi market for jams, jellies, puree and pastes recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -6.6% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste production rose remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Iraq
In 2021, shipments abroad of jams, jellies, puree and pastes decreased by -28.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 146%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 142%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Lebanon (X tons) was the main destination for jam, jelly, puree and paste exports from Iraq, accounting for a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports to Lebanon exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Egypt (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lebanon totaled +6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+6.3% per year) and Turkey (+93.2% per year).
In value terms, Lebanon ($X) remains the key foreign market for jams, jellies, puree and pastes exports from Iraq, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 3.5% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Lebanon amounted to +7.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (+15.4% per year) and the United States (+84.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for jams, jellies, puree and pastes stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 30%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Jams, Jellies, Puree And Pastes
Imports into Iraq
For the fourth year in a row, Iraq recorded decline in purchases abroad of jams, jellies, puree and pastes, which decreased by -18% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 235%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 214% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Kuwait (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Iran (X tons) were the main suppliers of jam, jelly, puree and paste imports to Iraq, with a combined 89% share of total imports. India lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 2.7%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +66.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Iran ($X), Turkey ($X) and Kuwait ($X) constituted the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste suppliers to Iraq, with a combined 89% share of total imports. These countries were followed by India, which accounted for a further 2.5%.
In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +55.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for jams, jellies, puree and pastes amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 15% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per ton), while the price for Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (-5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
