The Iraqi laptop and tablet computer market shrank remarkably to $X in 2021, dropping by -19% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). For the third year in a row, Iraq recorded growth in overseas shipments of laptops and palm-top computers, which increased by 148% to X units in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 436%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, laptop and tablet computer exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 411% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uganda (X units), the United States (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main destinations of laptop and tablet computer exports from Iraq, with a combined 75% share of total exports. Pakistan, the UK, Turkey and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.7%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Pakistan (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for laptop and tablet computer exported from Iraq were the United States ($X), the UK ($X) and Uganda ($X), with a combined 81% share of total exports. Pakistan, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.5%.

Pakistan, with a CAGR of +14.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average laptop and tablet computer export price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -15.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Laptop and tablet computer imports into Iraq reduced dramatically to X units in 2021, dropping by -23.9% against the year before. Overall, imports faced a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 231% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, laptop and tablet computer imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 287% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) was the main supplier of laptop and tablet computer to Iraq, with a 92% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR (X units), with a 2.4% share of total imports. China (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -12.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+38.0% per year) and China (+23.2% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of laptops and palm-top computers to Iraq, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 2.8% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 0.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled -5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+52.5% per year) and China (+9.6% per year).

In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, laptop and tablet computer import price increased by +49.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 37% against the previous year.
