The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 47%. In value terms, crude oil exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China (X tons), India (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of crude oil exports from Iraq, with a combined 67% share of total exports. South Korea, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the largest markets for crude oil exported from Iraq worldwide, with a combined 69% share of total exports. The United States, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
Among the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +11.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average crude oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -9.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were China ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Iraq
In 2022, crude oil imports into Iraq soared to X tons, rising by 97% against 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep setback. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crude oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Lebanon (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of crude oil imports to Iraq.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lebanon (with a CAGR of +12.9%).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Lebanon ($X) appeared to be the largest crude oil suppliers to Iraq.
Among the main suppliers, Lebanon, with a CAGR of -0.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average crude oil import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -24.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 90% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Lebanon amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
