Imports into Iraq
In 2022, the amount of rare gases (excluding argon) imported into Iraq fell to X cubic meters, which is down by -10.1% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 283% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rare gases imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 244%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of rare gases to Iraq, accounting for a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, rare gases imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X cubic meters), sevenfold. China (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+42.2% per year) and China (+2.9% per year).
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rare gases (excluding argon) to Iraq, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled +5.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+36.9% per year) and Egypt (+49.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average rare gases import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, dropping by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, rare gases import price decreased by -9.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Iran ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+42.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
