Glass Fiber Market Size in Iraq

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Iraqi glass fiber market, when its value increased by 97% to $X. In general, consumption, however, recorded a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2016, after two years of decline, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers, when their volume decreased by -61.9% to X kg. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 175% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, glass fiber exports plummeted to $X in 2016. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 701%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X kg) was the main destination for glass fiber exports from Iraq, with a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman (X kg), with a 2.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Turkey stood at +22.9%.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers exports from Iraq, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2016, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey stood at +20.8%.

In 2016, the average glass fiber export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -92.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 191%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015, and then plummeted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2016, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2016, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+109.6%).

Imports into Iraq

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers increased by 92% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep reduction. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, glass fiber imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 121%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of glass fiber imports to Iraq, with a combined 81% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Kuwait, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Malaysia, which together accounted for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +19.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), China ($X) and Turkey ($X) constituted the largest glass fiber suppliers to Iraq, together comprising 74% of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Iran, which together accounted for a further 19%.

The United States, with a CAGR of +19.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average glass fiber import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, glass fiber import price increased by +18.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+36.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
