For the fourth year in a row, the Irish black printing ink market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -39% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption showed a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, black printing ink exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a deep slump. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the UK totaled +11.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+110.7% per year) and Germany (-36.0% per year).

The average black printing ink export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -76.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 665%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+171.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of black printing ink decreased by 0% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, black printing ink imports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the UK (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of black printing ink to Ireland, with a 69% share of total imports.
