After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of candied fruits decreased by -78.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 174%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, candied fruit imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 161%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then declined sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of candied fruit imports to Ireland, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Greece, Brazil, France and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +189.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest candied fruit suppliers to Ireland were the UK ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 74% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Germany, Greece and Brazil, which together accounted for a further 21%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Brazil, with a CAGR of +124.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
