In 2022, overseas purchases of fiber board of wood or other ligneous materials decreased by -24.6% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2013, thus ending a eight-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters, and then dropped notably in the following year.
In value terms, fiberboard imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Spain (X cubic meters), the UK (X cubic meters) and Portugal (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of fiberboard imports to Ireland, with a combined 60% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +57.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
