As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The UK (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from Ireland, accounting for a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic household articles exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X tons), with a 5.1% share.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 179% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, the UK (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic household articles to Ireland, accounting for a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household articles imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.
