Luggage Market Size in Ireland

After two years of decline, the Irish luggage market increased by 31% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. Luggage consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, luggage exports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 134% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons), the UK (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of luggage exports from Ireland, together accounting for 74% of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Spain, Sweden, Italy and the United States, which together accounted for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of luggage and handbags decreased by -12.4% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 16%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, luggage imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest luggage supplier to Ireland, accounting for a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, luggage imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), fourfold.
