Nucleic acid imports into Ireland dropped to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -10.5% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, nucleic acid imports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +98.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nucleic acid to Ireland, with a 42% share of total imports. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Belgium amounted to +153.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+28.6% per year) and China (+27.9% per year).

In 2021, the average nucleic acid import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep slump.
