In 2022, the Irish motor vehicle radiator market decreased by -26.2% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption saw a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +29.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 84%. The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, motor vehicle radiator exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +41.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 70%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Germany (X units), the UK (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main destinations of motor vehicle radiator exports from Ireland, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Belgium, Spain, France, Finland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +31.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average motor vehicle radiator export price amounted to $X per unit, declining by -20.7% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, motor vehicle radiator export price increased by +57.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 44%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Motor vehicle radiator imports into Ireland shrank sharply to X units in 2022, dropping by -23.7% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, motor vehicle radiator imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the UK (X units) constituted the largest motor vehicle radiator supplier to Ireland, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, motor vehicle radiator imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), twofold. The Netherlands (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the UK totaled -5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+4.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+22.8% per year).

In value terms, the UK ($X) constituted the largest supplier of radiators for motor vehicles to Ireland, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the UK was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+6.6% per year) and Turkey (+25.4% per year).

In 2022, the average motor vehicle radiator import price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 48% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
