The UK (X litres) was the main destination for sugary soft drink exports from Ireland, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, sugary soft drink exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Croatia (X litres), more than tenfold. Romania (X litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the UK stood at +3.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Croatia (+236.2% per year) and Romania (+586.6% per year).

Sugary soft drink imports into Ireland fell to X litres in 2022, almost unchanged from 2021. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, sugary soft drink imports soared to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, the UK (X litres) constituted the largest sugary soft drink supplier to Ireland, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, sugary soft drink imports from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X litres), more than tenfold. The Netherlands (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the UK stood at +9.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+5.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+24.3% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sugary soft drinks to Ireland, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Switzerland ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the UK amounted to +6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Switzerland (+2.3% per year) and Germany (+5.7% per year).

Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction.
