The United States (X litres) was the main destination for exports of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages from Ireland, with a 36% share of total exports. In 2022, supplies from abroad of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages increased by 28% to X litres, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X litres in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the UK (X litres) constituted the largest spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages supplier to Ireland, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages from the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X litres), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Sweden (X litres), with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the UK stood at +11.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+13.1% per year) and Sweden (+13.3% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) constituted the largest supplier of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages to Ireland, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the UK was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+12.1% per year) and Germany (+2.5% per year).

The average import price for spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages stood at $X per litre in 2022, reducing by -32.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
