Mobile Phone Market Size in Ireland

The Irish mobile phone market expanded rapidly to $X in 2022, surging by 13% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, the total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last decade. In value terms, mobile phone exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 150% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The UK (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main destinations of mobile phone exports from Ireland, together accounting for 40% of total exports. Germany, Spain, Estonia, France, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Hong Kong SAR and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +81.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average mobile phone export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 3.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Estonia ($X per unit) and Poland ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) and the United States ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cyprus (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of mobile phones were finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight slump. Imports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mobile phone imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -6.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest mobile phone supplier to Ireland, with a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, mobile phone imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X units), twofold. India (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+195.2% per year) and India (+11.6% per year).

The average mobile phone import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -32.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
