For the third consecutive year, the Israeli baby garment market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 17% to $X in 2022. Overall, the total consumption indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +72.0% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, baby garment production skyrocketed to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 1,720% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) increased by 4% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 299%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, baby garment exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 130%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United States (X units), the UK (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main destinations of baby garment exports from Israel, with a combined 59% share of total exports. Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Australia, Austria, Taiwan (Chinese), Hong Kong SAR and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of +54.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) exports from Israel, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 9% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled +13.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+18.3% per year) and the UK (+43.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average baby garment export price amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -43.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 171%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Israel

Baby garment imports into Israel rose significantly to X units in 2022, picking up by 5.9% compared with 2021. In general, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, baby garment imports rose notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 42%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of baby garment to Israel, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, baby garment imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bangladesh (X units), more than tenfold. India (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+12.1% per year) and India (+15.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) to Israel, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bangladesh ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+12.3% per year) and India (+15.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average baby garment import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 5.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Spain ($X per unit) and Turkey ($X per unit), while the price for Morocco ($X per unit) and the United States ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
