Carob Production in Israel

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 4,746%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for carob exports from Israel, with a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, carob exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X tons), threefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 21% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled +144.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (-55.2% per year) and the UK (+45.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for carob exports from Israel, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Switzerland ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 21% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States totaled +131.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (-30.9% per year) and the UK (+37.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average carob export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($X per ton) and Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Palestine ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+54.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Carob Imports
Imports into Israel
For the third year in a row, Israel recorded growth in overseas purchases of carob, which increased by 111% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 134%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, carob imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 132%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons), Cyprus (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of carob imports to Israel, together comprising 57% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, which accounted for a further 1.2%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +60.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Turkey ($X) and Cyprus ($X) constituted the largest carob suppliers to Israel, together accounting for 83% of total imports. Germany lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 17%.
Among the main suppliers, Germany, with a CAGR of +65.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Cyprus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
