Canada (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of magnesium exports from Israel, together comprising 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and the UK, which together accounted for a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +40.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Canada ($X) and Brazil ($X) were the largest markets for magnesium exported from Israel worldwide, together comprising 64% of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and the UK, which together accounted for a further 34%.
Among the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +52.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average magnesium export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 56%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Israel
In 2021, overseas purchases of magnesium decreased by -14.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 110% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, magnesium imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 86% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the main magnesium supplier to Israel, accounting for a 96% share of total imports. Moreover, magnesium imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +21.5%.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of magnesium to Israel, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports.
