The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Malta (X tons) were the main destinations of paper bag exports from Israel, with a combined 80% share of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Israel

For the third year in a row, Israel recorded growth in overseas purchases of sacks and bags of paper, which increased by 27% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, paper bag imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), China (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of paper bag imports to Israel, with a combined 69% share of total imports. Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, Romania, the United States, Egypt and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Egypt (with a CAGR of +144.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the largest paper bag suppliers to Israel, with a combined 66% share of total imports. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
