For the tenth year in a row, the Israeli market for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 9.4% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption enjoyed a resilient expansion. Sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers decreased by -26.4% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 36%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports from Israel, with a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), fivefold. Canada (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States stood at +3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+20.5% per year) and Canada (-11.2% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers exports from Israel, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +1.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+22.1% per year) and Canada (-6.9% per year).

The average export price for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 50%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Russia ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2021, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports into Israel stood at X tons, flattening at the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 24%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +91.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average import price for sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Austria ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
