Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic alcohols exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) were the main destinations of aromatic alcohols exports from Italy, with a combined 53% share of total exports. Russia, Germany, Colombia, Belgium, Greece, the United States, Turkey and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic alcohols imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of aromatic alcohols to Italy, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, aromatic alcohols imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with an 18% share.

China, with a CAGR of +21.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aromatic alcohols import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -19.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 18%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
