Beeswax Market Size in Italy

In 2022, the Italian beeswax market increased by 2.2% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, beeswax production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Italy

In 2022, the amount of beeswax exported from Italy contracted dramatically to X tons, with a decrease of -42.8% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 234%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, beeswax exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 193%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

France (X tons), India (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of beeswax exports from Italy, together comprising 74% of total exports. Poland, the Czech Republic, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +65.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for beeswax exports from Italy, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France amounted to +35.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+18.8% per year) and Poland (+20.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average beeswax export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -18.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Beeswax Imports

Imports into Italy

In 2022, the amount of beeswax imported into Italy contracted rapidly to X tons, dropping by -25% on the previous year. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +14.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, beeswax imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +21.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of beeswax to Italy, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, beeswax imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +12.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-3.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+9.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest beeswax suppliers to Italy, together accounting for 84% of total imports.

China, with a CAGR of +10.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average beeswax import price amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 9.8% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
