Blanket Market Size in Italy

The Italian blanket market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, increasing by 98% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +99.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 38%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, blanket exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of blanket exports from Italy, together comprising 66% of total exports. The UK, Spain, Canada, Greece, Switzerland, Belgium, China, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of +49.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for blanket exported from Italy were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 56% of total exports. Switzerland, the UK, China, Spain, Canada, Belgium, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +33.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average blanket export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In general, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +16.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, blanket imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of blanket to Italy, accounting for a 134% share of total imports. Moreover, blanket imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +8.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+13.2% per year) and India (+6.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of blankets and traveling rugs (except electric blankets) to Italy, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 5.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+8.5% per year) and Spain (+12.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average blanket import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 41%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
