The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bleached sulphate pulp imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest bleached sulphate pulp supplier to Italy, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, bleached sulphate pulp imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uruguay (X tons), threefold.
