Germany (X tons) was the main destination for cherry exports from Italy, accounting for a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, cherry exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X tons), with a 12% share.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, purchases abroad of cherries decreased by -31.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cherry imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) were the main suppliers of cherry imports to Italy, with a combined 91% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Croatia (with a CAGR of +70.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
