From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coffee extract exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the main destinations of coffee extract exports from Italy, with a combined 37% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +35.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for coffee extracts, essences and concentrates exports from Italy, comprising 21% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Denmark ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with an 8.5% share.

Overall, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 44%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy
In 2021, approx. X tons of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates were imported into Italy; picking up by 2.4% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 16%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, coffee extract imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of coffee extract imports to Italy, together comprising 49% of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, India, France, Switzerland, Egypt, Belgium, Austria, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 44%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +78.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates to Italy, comprising 26% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Switzerland, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain amounted to +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-6.1% per year) and Switzerland (+12.8% per year).

The average coffee extract import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 6.9%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
