In 2021, the Italian concentrated orange juice market decreased by -62% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. In value terms, the largest markets for concentrated orange juice exported from Italy were Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 55% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, the United States, Belgium, Poland, Russia, Japan, Algeria and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further 32%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +67.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average concentrated orange juice export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 4.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of concentrated orange juice decreased by -5.8% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main suppliers of concentrated orange juice imports to Italy, together comprising 62% of total imports. Germany, Spain, Turkey, South Africa, Mexico and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
