In value terms, durum wheat exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 373% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Algeria (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of durum wheat exports from Italy, together accounting for 96% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Algeria (with a CAGR of +18.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Algeria ($X), Tunisia ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest markets for durum wheat exported from Italy worldwide, together comprising 96% of total exports.

Overall, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -40.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 65%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, durum wheat imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 62%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Overall, import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, durum wheat import price increased by +82.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
