Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of eggplants (aubergines) increased by 5.4% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, eggplant imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of eggplant to Italy, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, eggplant imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), sixfold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain stood at +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+22.5% per year) and Germany (+8.8% per year).

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain amounted to +2.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+19.4% per year) and Germany (+10.0% per year).
