As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, seafood meals and pellets exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. Germany (X tons) was the main destination for seafood meals and pellets exports from Italy, accounting for a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, seafood meals and pellets exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), twofold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

In value terms, the largest markets for seafood meals and pellets exported from Italy were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Romania ($X), together comprising 73% of total exports.
Romania, with a CAGR of +143.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average seafood meals and pellets export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 200%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Italy
Seafood meals and pellets imports into Italy fell to X tons in 2021, which is down by -10.1% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, seafood meals and pellets imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) were the main suppliers of seafood meals and pellets imports to Italy, with a combined 52% share of total imports. Germany, France, Chile, the Netherlands, Latvia and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +104.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Denmark ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest seafood meals and pellets suppliers to Italy, together comprising 49% of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Germany, the Netherlands, Chile, Latvia and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 44%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Morocco, with a CAGR of +104.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average seafood meals and pellets import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
