In 2021, overseas shipments of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons increased by 22% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -23.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

France (X tons) was the main destination for acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from Italy, accounting for a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (X tons), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France stood at +9.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-5.3% per year) and Spain (+45.8% per year).
In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons exports from Italy, comprising 22% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France totaled +15.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-0.5% per year) and Germany (-2.6% per year).

In 2021, the average acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 58% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy
In 2021, the amount of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons imported into Italy rose significantly to X tons, picking up by 11% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives imports to Italy, with a combined 82% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Poland, Russia and the UK, which together accounted for a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +115.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons to Italy, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands totaled +10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-4.5% per year) and France (-9.7% per year).

The average acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
