Israel (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat groats exports from Italy, together comprising 47% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Spain, Poland, Lebanon, Cameroon, Austria, South Korea, Belgium, Greece and Kuwait, which together accounted for a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cameroon (with a CAGR of +217.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-wheat groats export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cameroon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cameroon (+33.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of groats and meal of cereals (excluding wheat) imported into Italy surged to X tons, growing by 25% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 583%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat groats imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 1,004% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Hungary (X tons) constituted the largest non-wheat groats supplier to Italy, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, non-wheat groats imports from Hungary exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Croatia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Finland (X tons), with a 16% share.

Latvia, with a CAGR of +289.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-wheat groats import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 2.4% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-wheat groats import price increased by +87.7% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 62%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
