Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, groundnuts imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, Egypt (X tons) constituted the largest groundnuts supplier to Italy, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, groundnuts imports from Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Israel (X tons), fourfold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Egypt stood at +3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (+1.2% per year) and the United States (-12.3% per year).
