The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Spain (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of gummed paper exports from Italy, together comprising 37% of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovenia, Germany, Turkey, the United States, Taiwan (Chinese), Poland, Colombia, Chile, Egypt and Romania, which together accounted for a further 43%.

Overall, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of gummed paper to Italy, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, gummed paper imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Korea (X tons), with a 5.1% share.
