Imines Market Size in Italy

In 2021, the Italian imines market decreased by -4.4% to $X for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a strong expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after five years of decline. Over the period under review, exports recorded noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 143%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, imines exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons), the United States (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of imines exports from Italy, together accounting for 46% of total exports. Spain, Germany, Japan, Ukraine, Singapore, Tunisia, South Korea, Romania, France and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +162.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imines export price increased by +73.4% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof increased by 2.6% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +40.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imines imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +92.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

China (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of imines imports to Italy, together comprising 52% of total imports. Sweden, the United States, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +61.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
