As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, knife and scissors exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 32%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons), France (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of knife and scissors exports from Italy, together accounting for 33% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Morocco, the Netherlands, Egypt, Romania, the Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey, the UK and Austria, which together accounted for a further 35%.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 24%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of knives, scissors and blades, when their volume increased by 28% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, knife and scissors imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of knife and scissors to Italy, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, knife and scissors imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+2.1% per year) and France (-5.2% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of knives, scissors and blades to Italy, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+1.9% per year) and France (-3.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average knife and scissors import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
