From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved mackerel imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Portugal (X tons), France (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved mackerel imports to Italy, together comprising 66% of total imports. Ecuador, China, Poland, the Czech Republic and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
