The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -4.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +98.7% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat flour exports from Italy, with a combined 52% share of total exports. The United States, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Poland, Israel and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +51.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for non-wheat flour exported from Italy were Spain ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 52% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Poland, Israel and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Among the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +47.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average non-wheat flour export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy
In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-wheat flours increased by 0.6% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 84%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +23.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 57%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Slovenia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-wheat flour imports to Italy, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +35.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Austria ($X) appeared to be the largest non-wheat flour suppliers to Italy, with a combined 47% share of total imports. Slovenia, Poland, Spain, Belgium and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +53.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average non-wheat flour import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -10.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 26% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+38.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
