The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 58%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, persimmon exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +64.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 31%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Switzerland (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) were the main destinations of persimmon exports from Italy, together accounting for 59% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Lithuania (with a CAGR of +38.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X) remains the key foreign market for persimmon exports from Italy, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovenia ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Switzerland amounted to +1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovenia (+4.6% per year) and Austria (+6.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average persimmon export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, persimmon export price increased by +24.4% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy
In 2021, purchases abroad of persimmons decreased by -15.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 67%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, persimmon imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +9.9% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tons) was the main persimmon supplier to Italy, with a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany (X tons), with a 1.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+2.2% per year) and France (-6.4% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of persimmon to Italy, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain amounted to +12.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+1.2% per year) and France (-7.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average persimmon import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 25% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
