The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 51%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

France (X tons) was the main destination for cement pipe exports from Italy, accounting for a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, cement pipe exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Austria (X tons), with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (+1.7% per year) and Austria (+15.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for cement pipe exported from Italy were the United States ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X), together accounting for 49% of total exports. In general, export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cement pipe export price increased by +86.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 26%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cement pipe imports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest cement pipe supplier to Italy, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, cement pipe imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany stood at +7.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+6.8% per year) and China (+4.2% per year).

In general, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cement pipe import price increased by +40.8% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 27%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per ton), while the price for Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
