Plum And Sloe Market Size in Italy

In value terms, plum and sloe exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 48%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main destinations of plum and sloe exports from Italy, together accounting for 43% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Sweden, France and Norway, which together accounted for a further 33%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for plum and sloe exported from Italy were Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and Austria ($X), with a combined 48% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Egypt, Denmark, Sweden and France, which together accounted for a further 35%.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +9.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plum and sloe export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -31.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 81%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Italy
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of plums and sloes decreased by -35.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, plum and sloe imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main suppliers of plum and sloe imports to Italy, together comprising 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovenia, Germany, Croatia, France, Romania and South Africa, which together accounted for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovenia (with a CAGR of +57.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plum and sloe suppliers to Italy were Spain ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Chile ($X), together comprising 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Germany, Slovenia, Romania, South Africa and Croatia, which together accounted for a further 25%.
Among the main suppliers, Slovenia, with a CAGR of +56.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plum and sloe import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
