In value terms, the largest markets for rice bran exported from Italy were Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and Malta ($X), together comprising 79% of total exports. France, Belgium and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rice bran imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +18.2% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of rice bran to Italy, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, rice bran imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Austria (X tons), with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+51.8% per year) and Austria (-1.9% per year).
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rice bran to Italy, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France stood at +38.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+20.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average rice bran import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -33.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 43% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
