In value terms, grape wine spirits exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X litres) was the main destination for grape wine spirits exports from Italy, accounting for a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, grape wine spirits exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X litres), fivefold. The second position in the ranking was taken by Switzerland ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany totaled +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (-2.1% per year) and Canada (+5.6% per year).
